7th July 2025

We had some unexpectedly lovely weather (contrary to the weather

forecast) for our walk on Monday from Station Road Kippax down the Linesway to the Little Owl Cafe at RSPB St Aidan’s and back via Wood Lane. I had to leave early so Molly took over as walk lead. Thank you Molly!

Our next walk is on Wednesday 16th July and will be a treasure hunt around Garforth Further details to follow.

Just to give you a heads up about some of the future strolls coming up:

On Monday August 4th Molly will be leading a walk from Garforth Town End to The Springs (and back) - you will be able to walk either way (or both if you would like a longer stroll). The walk is 2 miles from Garforth to The Springs.

On Wednesday August 20th I am hoping to do a walk around Rothwell Park so that we can stop off at De Oliveira’s cafe on Marsh Street to sample things to come once they open their cafe in Kippax. And finally, on Monday September 1st Molly will lead a walk from Kippax across the fields to Garforth Garden Centre and back

19th June 2025

Starting at Glebelands, we sought out the shade of The Linesway before branching off onto the even shadier path down the side of The Academy and The Lowthers. Coming out just behind Springfield care home, it was then an easy stroll up the ginnel to Church Lane and Main Street for a welcome break at Costa. Refreshed, we took Fiddlers Close and the path around the Cricket Pitch and behind The Hollies to cross Church Land to St Mary’s church yard and back to Glebelands. We resisted the temptation to do a quick workout on the gym equipment there before finishing in the car park.

3rd June 2025

Strollers: We had a short but sweet stroll on Monday. Starting at The Commercial pub in Kippax we worked our way along the High Street and down Butt Hill to Kippax Wildlife Corridor behind Bickerdike Terrace (they are on Facebook - have a look). It’s a truly hidden gem that many locals residents may not even know exists. There we were met by Victoria who was delighted to show us around the site and explain what they have been doing there. They have just won a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust GOLD award for their work. Back up through the allotments, up Butt Hill and along High Street again to finish in The Commercial for refreshments. We were even blessed by sunshine

21st May 2025

We had 11 strollers meet up at Temple Newsam on Wednesday afternoon. After a change of plans (due to events and paths closed on the estate), the revised route included a walk through the Golden Rain (Laburnum) tunnels in the formal gardens, the rhododendron walk (still loads of colour there) down to the lakes, the walled garden (no roses yet!), the rare breed pigs and finished with refreshments in the cafe. We had some unexpectedly sunny weather for our walk! Our next walk will be on Monday 2nd June and will include Kippax wild life corridor and meadows! Further details will be sent out by Friday 30th June.

16th April 2025

Walk from Town End in Garforth to The springs (and back for some).

Ten brave souls joined Molly for a very windy and cold walk to the Springs.

We had coffee at the Springs before some walked back going via the farm yard and over the railway crossing and some stayed to shop and catch the bus back.

I think we all enjoyed the exercise and company (if not the weather!)

7th April 2025

15 strollers enjoying the sunshine walk down the lines from Station Road Kippax to Sam’s at Allerton Bywater (and back for some).

3rd March 2025

Almshouses Aberford to Nellies Tree

Lovely walk with 14 Strollers and doggy friends from The Almshouses in Aberford to Nellie’s tree on the Parlington Estate. Decent weather and not too much mud under foot. Finished off with refreshments at the Aberford Interiors Tea Room.

19th February 2025

Queens Mill Castleford

19th February: Nine Strollers (and Cally the dog) braved the chilly weather today for our walk from Queens Mill, down the Castleford riverside path (part of the Wakefield Way) and back. We democratically decided to curtail the walk (and not go over the millennium footbridge) in favour of  tea and cake at queens Mill tea rooms 🥶 🫖 🍰 Thanks to all who came today 👍 Our next stroll is on Monday March 3rd. Details of the walk to be shared on Friday February 28th.

3rd February 2025

Kippax to Owl Cafe

3rd February: What a lovely stroll we had yesterday. One of my favorites; down the lines from Station Road in Kippax with a refreshment stop at The Little Owl Cafe at St Aidan’s. And the unexpected bonus of sunshine! We had 18 strollers (plus doggy strollers Cally and Mabel) present including Geraldine who was walking with us for the first time. Our next walk is on Wednesday 19th February.  If there is a walk you would really like to do, or have a favorite we’ve already done and would like to repeat it, just let me know and I will check it out to confirm it is suitable for our group. Look forward to seeing you on the 19th if you can make it!

15th January 2025

Main Street-Barrowby Lane-Nannygoat Lane

I am delighted to say that 13 strollers (and 3 furry four-legged friends) enjoyed our first 2025 stroll on Wednesday 15th January. We covered the route planned for January 6th which we had to cancel due to the snow and sub zero temperatures. There was some very welcome sunshine which, together with good company, made the walk really pleasant. Start and finish was at Costa with Barrowby Lane and Nanny Goat Lane on the route!

Last Stroller's Walk of the Year 18th Dec 2024

We had the last strollers walk of 2024 today. Nine intrepid strollers met at Calvert Close in Kippax to walk across the fields to Garforth Garden Centre. The weather was kind to us although the fresh breeze made it a tad chilly (it also blew a few cobwebs away). We climbed Garforth Cliff to earn our reward of hot drinks and lovely cakes, and just about managed to resist the temptation to wander around and spend lots of money! On our walk back we admired the views from the top of the cliff and came down through the new estate back to Selby Road and back across the fields to our Kippax start point. It was a very pleasant couple of hours spent in great company. Ooh and we were able to wear our printed hi-vis jackets for the first time so everyone knew who we were! Wishing all strollers a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year. See you in 2025 XXX

Treasure Hunt 2nd Dec 2024

Todays treasure hunt stroll was designed by Sheila Walshaw. Sheila completed the walk with us and assisted walk leader Molly with the route and clues. Ten strollers met at The Briggate in Main Street. It was approximately 2 miles on good paths around Garforth. Fortunately, the weather was much kinder than on November 18th. Nobody got lost and everyone was a winner at the end of the walk. People discovered parts of Garforth they had never seen before (even tho they’ve lived here for over 50 years!) A nice warm drink and chat was enjoyed in Weatherspoons after the successful treasure hunt.

Station Road Kippax to Samuel Valentines 4th Nov 2024

We are well into Autumn now and our walk on Monday 4th November was truly Autumnal! Seventeen strollers (and 3 canine friends) set off from the car park at Station Road down the lines towards Allerton Bywater and Samuel Valentine’s. The path is tree-lined and so was strewn with fallen leaves in a range of golden colours. We were joined by another stroller as we emerged from The Linesway, bringing us to 18 strollers 😊 arriving at Samuel Valentines for refreshments. After our break some strollers took the bus back to Kippax and Garforth and twelve of us re-traced our steps back down the Lines to Great Preston arriving just as the light was starting to fade. What a lovely walk that was

Springs 16th Oct 2024

Wednesday 16th October, seven brave souls had an enjoyable but damp walk down route 66 (National Cycle Network route 66) from Town End in Garforth to the Springs for coffee and cake 😀 After our break four strollers walked the same route back to Garforth - again a little damp but lovely warm autumnal weather with mist over the fields either side of the path back to Garforth. Thank you to Molly Ibbitson for leading. You did a great job 🙏✨Molly!

Queens Mill 7th Oct 2024

Ten strollers met at Queens Mill in Castleford on 7th October  for a walk along the banks of the River Aire. We found some interesting carved panels depicting the history of Castle Ford and were amazed to discover that you could, if you wanted to, walk all the way to Wakefield along the banks of the rivers Aire and Calder! The riverside path is a hidden treasure and made for a lovely stroll in the early autumn sunshine. We finished by visiting the Millennium Bridge before going back to the queens Mill Tea Rooms for refreshments overlooking the river and weir.

St Aidans 5th August 2024

This afternoon 10 of us (and Mable the dog) enjoyed a stroll either once, or in some cases, twice around Bowers Lake at RSPB St Aidan’s. This is such an astonishingly beautiful place and much of that beauty was on display this afternoon! The weather was a little close so we enjoyed refreshments and some ice creams at The Little Owl cafe between the first and second forays around the lake. All in all, a very pleasant afternoon in good company! Our next walk will be on Wednesday 21st August at 2pm. Location to be advised (and if anyone has any requests for a specific location let me know). Look forward to seeing you

First Walk Monday 11th April 2024

The new Strollers group had their inaugural walk on Monday. Thirteen members joined the 2 mile walk around Garforth. The rain held off, we didn’t lose anybody and we learned a little about the History of Garforth from Garforth Station to Town End (courtesy of Tony Robinson’s Garforth History on the web site). Next walk on Wednesday 17th April - details to be confirmed. Come and join us!
