This group has been inactive for a while due to the complexity of running such a popular group. We are glad to announce that, because of public demand, it is coming back.
However there are some changes on how the group will be organised.
- The venues will be ad hoc, and anyone wanting to suggest a venue will be able to talk to the convenors.
- The dates will be ad hoc
- The convenors WILL NOT be organising transport, it is for each individual to arrange their own
- The convenors WILL NOT be organising tickets, or deposits or special discounts. This becomes a logistical nightmare, therefore you need to make sure you research the visit yourselves and workout how it works best for you and maybe your buddy.

Burnby Hall Gardens, 30th April 2026
Our first garden visit of the year took place on 30th April for the tulip festival at Burnby Hall Gardens Pocklington.
We all met at the Lily Pad café for our customary coffee before we ventured off around the water lily lake and marvelled at the beautiful array of tulips. The weather was sunny and the tulips were spectacular. Well worth the visit.
After our stroll around the gardens we had lunch and ended our day with an ice cream. Perfect!
Our next visit is planned for the 4th June, when we're planning on going to the Himalayan Gardens near Ripon.

Burnby Hall Garden Tulip Festival 1st May 2025
The Garden Group has been reinstated in the hope we can have some wonderful colourful visits. The sun shone from beginning to end of the visit, choosing the hottest day of the year so far. Burnby Hall Garden is situated north of York about 45 minutes drive from Garforth. 12 members made the journey by car share in most cases. The garden is well laid out, not too large with decent paths.
There are small hidden areas well worth going off the route to see. A beautiful dell with tree stump features which brought a welcome cool shaded area. Plenty of seats around the garden to sit and take in the vista. The gardens are situated around a lake which is well known for its display of lillies’. As with so many or these gardens there is a well stocked cafe, with a smaller coffee bar. Picnic benches edge the lake for a relaxing sit down.
The tulips were incredible. Every colour and size you could imagine.
All displays are clearly labelled. This was useful if you fancy planting tulips in your own garden.
