We welcome any member, new or old, to join us if you class yourself as either a crocheter, knitter, or learner; in fact we invite members who would like to improve their current skill levels, or even want to learn the basics, as the current members will be pleased to be passing on their knowledge. And yes, our post box toppers will still be part of the group.

Gaping Goose

2025 Christmas items donated for Landlady Jo to sell to support Yorkshire Air Ambulance

Air Ambulance Donations

We continue to meet at the Gaping Goose and are happy to say we have donated new items to Jo, the landlady, who continues to raise monies for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Our latest donations included a special request for a baby blanket made by Judith. However this is not all we do, as members are encouraged, and assisted, to pursue their personal projects as well which are varied.

21 Box Toppers

To date (May 2025) since the King's Coronation in May 2023, they have produced a total of 21 vibrant and eye-catching toppers, which are much commentated on when they appear on social media. All of these have been partially funded via our publicity budget as each is labelled as being on behalf of Garforth, Kippax & District u3a; and they have more to come this year!'

Townswomen's Guild - May 2025

'Following their visit to the Townswomen's Guild Annual Craft Competition in May last year, our Post Box Topper ladies were invited back this May to give a full presentation on crochet and the post box toppers.

Their presentation lasted for 45 minutes covering the history of crochet, from 1700's through to the current day; looking at materials and hooks through the ages, and finished with their personal journey from their first topper to where they are today. They have now been invited to give another presentation, this time on History of Knitting, next year.

U3A Week

21st-29th Sept

New post box toppers aimed at U3A Week, both images very similar in light of raising awareness of our U3A and the wider U3A movement, so one image of both.

Townswomen's Guild May 2024

Our Post Box Topper ladies were invited early in May to be the guest presentation at the Leeds Townswomen’s Guild Annual Craft Competition, where members enter their exhibits with a chance to win the Trudy Cope Trophy. We were honoured to attend and help judge the entries, which were varied.

Heather gave an informative talk which covered the origins of Post Box Toppers as well as how we came to producing our own toppers. There were many questions, some relating to our u3a and what we can offer.

We have also just been asked to return in May 2025 to talk to the (local) Garforth Townswomen Guild at one of their general meetings. Networking at its best!
